My parents went through the depression. Not going through it myself I have little true understanding of what that must have been like. I remember my dad telling me that he needed a downpayment of $25 to buy the home I grew up in and did not even have that at first. Times were hard. They worried a lot about how the next payment was going to be made or where the next meal was going to come from. Worrying about this or that was a part of family life.
After leaving home, I got saved. Through reading God’s Word, I uncovered that worry is not to be the norm for followers of Jesus. We are to be free of all worries. That is easier said than done for someone who only knew about “worries” growing up.
As I continue my journey of trust, I know that I no longer need to worry about where I will spend eternity or worry about the future. It is all in God’s hands. I can stop worrying!
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Mattheew 6:25-27 NIV
